Tiny Tower mini review

I really enjoyed the Nimblebit title Tiny Tower. If you haven't played it yet, download it from the Apple App Store and try it out today! Unfortunately, it is not a new game, and it was a very popular game when it was new, which means that you might have already played a ripoff version of it (shame on Zynga for Dream Heights!). Many games have been inspired by or have outright stolen from Tiny Tower, so you might have already played the game in the form of a copycat game. In Tiny Tower, you manage an ever-expanding building where you have floors dedicated to businesses and residences. You find new tenants, you assign jobs to them, and you manually restock the goods in the businesses where you have assigned the tenants to work. Also, there's a dynamic where you move people about via elevator, which can grant you the game's special currency. Your tower grows and grows, and with each floor, the amount of time that it takes for a new floor to complete also grows and grows. What initially only took a few minutes will begin to take hours and eventually days, but this isn't a huge drawback at first, as you have so many floors that there's always something to do. Eventually, the game will lose it's appeal, but that's the case with 99% of all iphone games. Also, there's a strategic element of selecting the right person for the right job, which awards bonuses to the player.  I found Tiny Tower to be fun for a couple months, which is a decent span of time for an iphone game.

This is one of the few "free to play" games that has a special currency which you can easily earn though playing the game. Many iphone games that claim to be "free to play" force you to purchase a special currency that can only be gained through using free money. It is a nice touch that you can always progress in the game without buying anything. I'll admit that I haven't played Tiny Tower for months, so it is possible that updates have changed this aspect of the game.

Tiny Tower is a really great game. If you're new to gaming on an iphone or a smart phone in general, check it out. If you frequently play games from the Apple App Store, you may have already played a ripoff title without realizing it. Even if you've played a ripoff title, still give this game a chance. The adorable, 8-bit art style alone is novel and charming, so at least try this game out.
