Uniquely Innovative Video Games! Our new prerecorded episode!

Here's another non-live episode of JE Funhouse! This time, we've got a review of Tokyo Jungle from the Playstation Network, which I often refer to as "Tokyo Zoo" for some reason. Perhaps it is because I was testing Raven? We will discuss the topic of my fearsome Pomeranian pup, and why it is a bad idea to pick a desperate mate.

Listen in as we both chime in on the topic of unique video games!

We were a bit sleepy during the recording of this episode, but we decided to play through the pain and create this labour of love.

Thanks for tuning in! We appreciate everyone who listens, even if you participate silently!

Captain N: The Gamemaster Comparison Pics

I'm going to save you all some time and make a post about Captain N. Check out how the cartoon interpretation of some beloved Nintendo characters went totally wrong. This was an actual television show, everybody! You must see to believe.

The odd appearance modifications were only half of the equation. The characters were all given bizarre speech disabilities. Mega Man couldn't stop saying "mega" with every sentence. Kid Icarus (I know that's not his real name) loved slapping "icus" at the end of all his words. Simon Belmont just sounds like a fool, plain and simple.

The real Mega Man.
Mega No!

Kid Icarus actually isn't so bad. I always liked the way his character looked.

How did Simon Belmont become this egotistical metrosexual?

This guy is a vampire killer and protector of the innocent!

Sega Master System - You have to pay a little more

I never knew anyone who owned a Master System as a kid. Most of my friends had an NES, I knew people with Ataris and I had a single friend with a Commodore. No one had a Sega Master System. Occasionally, I would notice ads in comic books referencing the Master System and specifically the game Alex Kidd. As I got older, I had all but forgotten the console.

When I began to recently develop an affinity for vintage games, the Sega Master System caught my eye. It is a different looking system, quite a departure from the VCR/toaster loading NES. After a failed eBay purchase where I was sent a console that didn't work, I finally was able to procure a Master System that worked!

In the very beginning, I found the system quite underwhelming. I picked up a few cheap, common games and they were all shovelware for the most part. I enjoyed the novelty of having something new (to me), but it just wasn't all that fun. However, over the past couple months, I've fallen in love with the console after having learned the lesson that you just have to pay a little bit more if you want a quality game. Spending $2 or $3 on a NES game may net you something good, but you've all but guaranteed yourself a terrible game for the Master System. Unfortunately, for a good Master System game, you're going to have to spend a good $15-$20, and that won't even necessarily net you the best stuff. Half the really solid games are not common and they are not cheap. It certainly feels like much more of a commitment than the other consoles I've started collecting for, but if you are willing to put in the time to shop around for games, you'll fall in love with it too. I'll tell you more about the system later.

Finally our podcast widget has been installed!

Hi all,

Check out our fancy new podcast Blog Talk Radio widget on the right side of the screen! Well, it isn't fancy, but it is new, and it should make listening to the podcast a bit more convenient for some. As always, you have a few options if you want to listen to the show. You can listen to it live on Blog Talk Radio's website, you can listen to it on iTunes (or any podcast player), or you can listen to it on here now.

Lots of people consider subscribing to it on iTunes to be one of the easiest ways to listen. You can always just subscribe to the feed using any sort of podcast program on your phone (I prefer RSS radio, which has a free app in the Apple app store).

Here's the address for the feed: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/je-funhouse-we-are-what-you-play.rss
