First Post!

Here is the first post of JE Funhouse! Thanks for reading! I've decided to just jump into posting on here rather than learn how to pretty up/organize the blog, so it might take a while before this blog begins to look as fancy as others on here. Right now, my thought on this blog is to focus on topics that are fun for me: old school video games, movies, comic books, classic toys, and really any random stuff that I feel like posting about. Before (and possibly after) this blog finds itself, it may likely take on a stream of consciousness type of format. There isn't going to be a great deal of planning at the very beginning, but I'm hoping that many folk will find the charm in that.

I've recently purchased two original NES consoles and I've started getting into building a NES collection. When I was a kid, the second the SNES came out, I foolishly sold all of my games except a couple. I invested all of these funds into WWF Super Wrestlemania for the SNES, which was purchased at a Kiddie City which has not existed for probably almost 20 years now. As years have passed, I have played some classic games on the Wii and it is possible that I've played a split-second of an emulated game here and there, but I've found that it is impossible to ignore that you only receive a portion of nostalgia that way. As any old school gamer will tell you, there is a powerful nostalgic value in holding an actual cartridge, powering up the console, and playing with a official controller. It is more fun. Period. Collecting and playing NES carts is a way to recapture my youth at my leisure.

Images of my recent purchases can be found below. I've only been collecting for a couple months at this point, and I'm going to pick up speed shortly. My current mission is to compile a shopping list of all the games I want and get them one-by-one.

A copy of Faxanadu is hidden away inside the NES.

I know, I really didn't do the best job with my pictures. The cart with the flash directly on the title is MAD: Spy vs Spy.

I'm listening to Antiques Roadshow as I type this, and a woman is showing off what she thought was a genuine Faberge egg. It wasn't. She paid $15,000. The appraiser referred to it as a "Faux-berge" worth $3,000. Some of the most fun moments on the show are when people seem to randomly bring in something they saved from the trash and it ends up being worth thousands. It is always nice when someone has a hidden treasure. Equally enjoyable are the moments are where someone impulsively plunks down thousands of dollars in hopes of striking it rich only to find out that their investment is worth nearly nothing.

Antiques Roadshow has nothing to do with NES games, but I blog how I want.

In the future, I'm going to provide my own reviews and info on some of these games. I'd love to hear what other people are playing, and I imagine there is probably a pretty nice community on here. There are probably thousands of blogs on here with the intent to talk about similar topics to this, and it is likely that they have countless followers, so I imagine many people won't read this initial post for a while. If you've somehow made it to this blog and read this post, comment! Be the first to comment! You will earn a special place in my heart for doing so.
